About
The inland valley is harder on refrigeration than the coast
We repair built-in and professional appliances across Escondido and the inland communities around it: Central and Old Escondido, Kit Carson, East Valley, Felicita, Jesmond Dene, Eureka Springs, Harmony Grove, Hidden Meadows, Lake Hodges, Daley Ranch and San Pasqual Valley, out through Rancho Bernardo, Poway, San Marcos, Vista and Valley Center, and into the commercial kitchens downtown around Grape Day Park and the transit center. Most of the calls are Sub-Zero refrigeration: PRO 48 units, built-in columns, undercounter drawers, wine cabinets, and every ice maker fed off them.
Escondido sits in a valley with a range of hills between it and the ocean, and that one piece of geography decides which part fails first in these kitchens. A condenser can only push heat into the air that is already around it. When the afternoon air in the valley is well above anything the coast ever sees, a coil that is half blocked with dust still keeps up at breakfast and has run out of room by four o'clock. What we hear on the phone is that it only happens sometimes: warm by dinner, fine again in the morning. That is not an intermittent fault. That is a cooling system with no headroom left in the heat, and the readings at the coil say so plainly.
We are also not fighting the fault that kitchens on the coast fight. Salt air corrodes condensers a few ranges of hills west of here. Nothing corrodes in Escondido. What loads a grille here is dust, pollen off dry hillsides, and the wind events that push both through a house in the fall. Salt eats a coil; dust insulates it, which is worse in one specific way: it is invisible, and the appliance goes on working twice as hard to hold the same number. That is why we push condenser cleaning harder inland than anyone needs to at the beach.
Reviews
Two other companies had been out to the Thermador column and both wanted to replace the board because of the code on the panel. He read the code, then actually tested the part it was blaming, cleaned out the grille and it has not thrown a warning since.
