Frequently asked questions

How soon can someone get to an address in Escondido?

Usually the same day, commonly within a few hours of the call, and the line is answered around the clock every day of the year. The diary is rarely the limiting factor; whether the right part is already on the van is. Give us the model number and a clear symptom on the phone.

Which parts of Escondido and North County do you cover?

The whole city and the ring around it: Central and Old Escondido, Kit Carson, East Valley, Felicita, Eureka Springs, Jesmond Dene, Harmony Grove, Hidden Meadows, Lake Hodges, Daley Ranch and San Pasqual Valley, covering the 92025, 92026, 92027 and 92029 zip codes. Also Rancho Bernardo, Poway, San Marcos, Vista and Valley Center, plus commercial kitchens downtown near Grape Day Park and the transit center.

What happens on the first visit, and how is the work priced?

The appliance is diagnosed where it stands: the grille comes off, the condenser gets read, and temperatures and current draw are taken at the coil rather than off the door display. A diagnostic fee applies for that assessment and is waived when you approve the repair. The repair is one quoted figure covering parts and labor, agreed before anything is opened.

Will the unit have to be pulled out of the cabinetry, and what does that put at risk?

Almost never. Built-in and integrated Sub-Zero equipment is serviced in place: the condenser is reached through the grille, and the fans, boards, sensors and ice maker are reachable without moving the cabinet. Most Escondido cooling calls end at a condenser loaded with valley dust behind that grille, so the unit stays put. Sliding a loaded column across tile is how a fan motor turns into a flooring bill.

Do you fit factory-spec parts, and where does that leave a factory warranty?

Parts that match the manufacturer's specification for your model, not pattern substitutes. A generic condenser fan motor or control board runs for a while and fails again, usually inside a season, and inland run hours are unkind to both. If the unit is still inside a Sub-Zero, Wolf, Viking or Thermador factory warranty, call the manufacturer first: sealed-system cover turns on who opened the system.

The refrigerator is warm by evening and fine again in the morning. Is that worth a call?

Yes, and it is a common call in this valley. A condenser can only shed heat into the air around it, so a coil carrying a season of dust and pollen keeps up at breakfast and has nothing left by five o'clock. That is not intermittent; it is a cooling system out of headroom in the heat, and the fix is a cleaning and a part.

My ice cubes are small and hollow. Is that the ice maker or the water?

Inland it is usually the water. Small, hollow or half-formed cubes mean the mold never filled: an overdue filter, low pressure, or a fill tube and valve screen narrowed by mineral scale. No ice at all from a freezer that is still cold is the harvest side instead: the module, its thermostat or the ejector motor. Opposite repairs, so pressure at the inlet valve gets read first.

Is a built-in worth repairing, or should I just replace it?

Repairing wins on this equipment. A built-in is fitted cabinetry as much as an appliance, so a replacement has to hit the same opening, the same panel hardware and the same grille height; when it does not, the kitchen gets involved and the number stops being an appliance number. What fails is ordinary: a condenser fan, evaporator fan, defrost heater, thermistor, door gasket or ice maker module.
